Janne Reuss is an award-winning contemporary artist born and raised in Mexico City and currently based in Toronto, Canada. A professional practicing artist for more than two decades, she has lived, worked, and exhibited in Mexico, the United States, Germany, Italy, and Canada, with eight solo exhibitions, and numerous group shows.
Her work has been selected in to fourteen juried exhibitions, winning the 2026 Akasha Art Project Award at Artist Project Toronto, recognizing outstanding execution among more than 300 participating artists. In the same year, she was invited by curator Francisco Alvarez to participate in Panamerican Colors II, a group exhibition supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, bringing together Latin American artists whose practices reflect diverse experiences of diaspora, belonging, memory. In 2020–2021, Reuss took part in residencies at Akin X Collision Gallery and the Akin Studio Program at MOCA, culminating with one of her most important solo exhibitions called Rewriting the Story.
Janne is a lens-based multimedia artist. She brings together photography, painting and installation, often placing images of nature and architecture in tension with one another. Replanted is an ongoing series with layered images, that examines how the memory of a place shape our sense of belonging through the shifting boundaries between dream and reality, past and present, and the natural and the constructed.
Reuss studied Fine Arts at the Academy of Art and Design in Stuttgart, Germany, and Art History in Mexico. Her work is held in private and public collections, including the Donovan Art Collection at St. Michael’s College in Canada and the Municipal Gallery of Ostfildern, Germany.
