Janne Reuss is an award winning artist, born and raised in Mexico City and is currently based in Toronto, Canada. She has been a professional practicing artist for more than two decades, having lived, worked and exhibited her artwork in Mexico, United States, Germany, Italy and Canada -- including seven solo shows and numerous group exhibitions.

 

Her work has been selected into 14 juried exhibitions, winning the Akasha Art Project Award at the Artist Projects Toronto in 2026, recognizing outstanding execution amongst 300+ artists. In 2002 she also won 3rd place in the best in show category, Fall into Art, juried by Susan Perry of the Mint Museum in Charlotte, North Carolina.

 

In 2020/2021 Janne participated in residencies at Akin X Collision Gallery and Akin Studio Program Auto BLDG at MOCA, the former culminating in her most important solo exhibition so far: Rewriting the Story, a series of over 20 overpainted photomontages.

 

Janne’s preferred media are photography and collage, and she also paints, often cycling fluidly between these three media. Through the fragmenting, layering, and juxtaposition of her photographic images, printed on a range of materials, she invites the viewers to look deeper into the layers upon which we build our lives experiences. A constant theme in her work is her interest in human nature and how memories and experiences are imprinted deep inside of us.

 

Reuss studied Fine Arts at the Academy of Art & Design in Stuttgart, Germany and History of Art in Mexico. Janne’s work is held in private and public collections including the Donovan Art Collection at St. Michael’s College (Canada) and the Municipal Gallery of Ostfildern (Germany).
